The Quantum Communication Symposium 2024 in Braunschweig has set a vibrant stage for innovation and collaboration, bringing together leading minds from industry, academia, and politics. As a co-initiator of the SQuaD Project (Schirmprojekt Quantenkommunikation Deutschland), QBN is at the forefront of shaping Germany and Europe’s quantum communication landscape. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the SQuaD initiative plays a pivotal role in transitioning quantum communication from research to industrial application, paving the way for technological sovereignty and competitive growth.
The symposium underscored the importance of transforming local testbeds into cohesive national and international networks, fostering collaboration to strengthen Germany’s advanced research landscape, and emphasizing the need for customers beyond funding to sustain the ecosystem. Tailored support for startups and EU-wide coordination emerged as vital enablers for commercialization and ecosystem growth.
QBN actively advances this mission by fostering innovation, enabling technology transfer, and promoting entrepreneurial success through targeted workshops and the creation of a comprehensive toolkit designed to support startups and entrepreneurs. Recent efforts, such as the development of the SQuaD Networking Platform, exemplify QBN’s dedication to connecting stakeholders across industry, academia, and policy sectors, fostering a well-networked quantum ecosystem.
