What does it mean to scale quantum chips, and which aspects are most relevant today?

This meeting, hosted by Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS, brings together experts from research, industry, and the quantum ecosystem to explore how quantum chips can be scaled to support emerging technologies and applications. The exchange will focus on key dimensions such as fabrication processes, foundry approaches, scaling strategies, and testing methodologies, and how these elements interact across the value chain.

Participants will gain insights into current developments and open questions related to the industrialization of quantum chips, including the role of advanced microelectronics infrastructure and the integration of quantum-specific requirements. Particular attention will be given to how scalable production and reliable testing can enable the transition from laboratory prototypes to deployable quantum systems.

The session also aims to highlight synergies with the regional microelectronics ecosystem, fostering connections between quantum technology developers and established semiconductor expertise. By bridging these domains, the meeting will explore how existing capabilities can accelerate the development of scalable quantum hardware.

Beyond structured inputs, the session is designed as an interactive exchange, encouraging active participation and discussion among attendees. A guided lab tour at Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS will provide additional insights into state-of-the-art facilities and ongoing activities in quantum chip development.

Whether you are working on materials, chip design, fabrication, system integration, or strategic and market-related topics, this meeting offers a space to connect perspectives and identify common directions for advancing scalable quantum chip technologies.

We look forward to an open and constructive discussion with the quantum community.

Key highlights:

  • Perspectives on quantum chip development and scaling
  • Discussion of fabrication, foundry, scaling, and testing approaches
  • Exchange on industrialization pathways and ecosystem collaboration
  • Lab tour at Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS
  • Interactive format encouraging active participation
