QBN at Quantum Symposium 2025 of Bundeswehr & BWI – Making Defence Sector Quantum-Ready

28 November, 2025 4:34 pm

For the fourth time, the German Federal Ministry of Defence and BWI are hosting the Quantum Symposium in Berlin under the motto “Quantum meets Strategy” to promote exchange between experts from science, the quantum industry, the defence industry, public administration, and the German Armed Forces.

In times of increasing geopolitical tensions and emerging conflicts, the commitment to securing peace, sovereignty, and security has never been greater. And quantum technologies will crucially be contributing to maintaining the tactical and strategic edge of the Armed Forces and its Allies.

“Together we will make the German Armed Forces quantum-ready,” says Dr. Volker Pötzsch, Brigadier General and Head of the Steering Committee for the Development of the Innovation and Cyber Department at the Federal Ministry of Defence.

QBN has supported the Quantum Symposium since its inception four years ago and was once again represented with a keynote speech this year. Together with NATO, Johannes Verst, CEO at QBN, presented “Quantum Strategies of Industry, NATO, and QBN.” In it, they reported on the current and future threat scenario, the contribution of quantum technologies, and the state of the defence-related quantum industry, how ministries and the defence sector can become quantum ready, and what the strong cooperation between NATO and the EU looks like. The QBN white paper “Quantum for Defence – Harnessing European Innovations for Strategic Superiority” was also discussed.

Following keynote speeches by the German Federal Ministry of Defence, BWI, UniBW, QBN, and NATO, practical workshops on quantum computing, sensing, and communication were held to make the morning’s ideas more tangible and discuss specific applications of quantum technologies in the defense sector and for military capability development.

NATO, EDA, BMVg, and other EU MoDs, as well as the defence industry and the quantum industry, have their quantum strategies in place. The EU has published its Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030 with quantum as one of its seven critical capability areas; now it’s time for practical implementation.

We can’t wait to share more news in a couple of days to present you with great opportunities to shape the defence-quantum dialogue and drive adoption and quantum readiness together. Stay tuned.
