ZuriQ is building a trapped-ion quantum computer that redefines the architecture at the deepest layer. We tackle the challenge of physical qubit number scaling upfront by designing systems that operate with 2D reconfigurable arrays of ions trapped only using dc electric fields and a static magnetic field. Unlike systems that rely on radio-frequency electric fields for trapping, ions in our Penning micr0-trap array architecture are free to move in all three spatial dimensions, unlocking novel capabilities that enhance its quantum computing power. ZuriQ was founded as a spin-off from ETH Zurich in 2024 and maintains a strong connection to the research group of Prof. Jonathan Home
