BWI GmbH – IT Specialist and Digitalization Partner of the German Armed Forces

State-owned IT service provider BWI GmbH is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. Its service portfolio extends from initial requirements analysis to 24/7 IT support, as well as including consulting, design, implementation, and IT operations. As sole digitalization partner of the German Armed Forces (the Bundeswehr), it is responsible for supporting the armed forces in its digital transformation.

BWI was founded in 2006 and was assigned with modernizing the Bundeswehr’s IT. As part of the so called HERKULES project, BWI completely restructured the IT environment of the Bundeswehr within ten years – still one of the largest IT consolidation and modernization projects in Europe. Valuable experience was gained during this process which continually enables BWI’s to operate and continually develop high-performance, reliable, and secure IT infrastructure for its customers.

BWI has not only sharpened its profile as an IT service provider and adapted to growing requirements but has also undergone a major transformation as an employer. More than 6,500 employees at over 40 locations worldwide comprise BWI’s workforce – all of whom benefit from flexible, modern employment models.
